Key Takeaways
Trump’s net approval rating is above water in 31 states: More voters than not approved of Trump’s job performance across most of the country in the first quarter of 2025, including states that were key to his victory last fall such as Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Georgia and Nevada.
Sentiment is already in the red in key 2025 states: More voters than not disapprove of Trump’s job performance at this early point in Virginia (49% to 48%) and New Jersey (52% to 44%) as the states prepare to host big gubernatorial races this fall.
Warning signs for 2026: Trump is deeply underwater in Maine, where longtime Republican Sen. Susan Collins faces a decision on whether to seek re-election next year. Nearly 3 in 5 voters (57%) disapprove of Trump in Maine, with 47% saying they “strongly” disapprove of his job performance. (See more on Collins’ standing here.)

Methodology
All state-level data is based on a three-month roll-up of responses from Morning Consult’s daily U.S. tracking survey among registered voters. Margins of error among registered voters vary by state, from as high as +/-6 percentage points in less populous states such as Wyoming to +/-1 point in more populous states such as California.
